Terra Madre Meets Salone del Gusto

At Terra Madre/Salone del Gusto (Torino, October 23-27), the Slow Food European Parliament Convivum ‘Les Goûts d’Europe’ is organizing a conference on the impact of the reform of the Common Agriculture Policy currently under discussion in relation to the challenges facing Europe and the rest of the world.

In the near future, in fact, questions such as biodiversity, food security and the use of GMOs in agriculture will play center-stage in the international debate in the agriculture and health sectors.

The Torino meeting will speak about the tools that the CAP reform will make available to Europe to help it in its task and analyze critical factors that might jeopardize the principles of “clean, fair and good food”.

The ongoing dialog between the European Parliament, Slow Food and the Terra Madre network seeks to favor quality agriculture by defending typical regional produce and environmental sustainability and promoting a fair distribution of income.

The initiative has been organized by the Euro MPs Marie-Hélène Aubert (Greens/EFA), Monica Frassoni (Greens/EFA) and Vincenzo Aita (GUE/NGL), founders of the Slow Food EP Convivium.

Speakers will include Daniele Bianchi, member of the cabinet of the Commissioner for Agriculture Fischer Boel, and a representative of the network of GMO Free regions. Terra Madre delegates Gerard Batalla from Catalonia and Silvana Ferrigo from Brazil will also intervene to comment upon EU agricultural policy reforms.
