Slow Food President Carlo Petrini visits Finland

On the 17th and 18th of March, Carlo Petrini, president and founder of Slow Food, will visit Porvoo, Helsinki and the Slow Food Finland Members’ Assembly in Malmgård. This will be his first visit to Finland.

Carlo Petrini is an Italian journalist and food activist. Over 20 years ago he founded Slow Food, a global grassroots organization that envisions a world in which all people can access and enjoy food that is good for them, good for those who grow it and good for the planet. Under Petrini’s inspiring leadership, this non-profit member-supported association now has around 100,000 members joined in 1,500 convivia – or local chapters – worldwide, as well as a network of 2,000 food communities, part of the Terra Madre network, who practice small-scale and sustainable production of quality foods. Thanks to its projects and activities, the network involves millions of people in 150 countries. Carlo Petrini also created the University of Gastronomic Sciences (in Italy) to offer a multidisciplinary academic programme in the science and culture of food.

Carlo Petrini (s. 1949) is a journalist, writer, and the founder and president of Slow Food, born in the small city of Bra in Piedmont, Italy. Since the 1970s, his writings on food and wine have been published in a wide variety of magazines. In addition, he has published several books on eco-gastronomy, or sustainable development with -quality food production. Nowadays, Carlo Petrini shuttles around the world talking about the Slow Food philosophy, the importance of forming networks between producers and consumers, as well as promoting ecological small production in international agricultural policies.
