Slow Food International General Secretary, Paolo Di Croce in Canada, April 11 – 15, 2011

Slow Food International General Secretary Paolo Di Croce will be meeting Slow Food local members and leaders from around Canada in a series of events to be held from April 11 to 15, including the national meeting of Slow Food Convivium leaders to be held in Vallée de la Batiscan.

Di Croce will be at George Brown College on April 12 at 6.30 pm where he will take part in a conference entitled, “Slow Food in Action: A Global Vision for Good, Clean, Fair, Local Food”. The International General Secretary will also be meeting with Slow Food members to present Slow Foods new ambitious project: to create 1000 Gardens in Africa. Slow Food Toronto, the largest Convivium in Canada, was the first to adopt a Garden thanks to the funds raised during its events. With his visit to Canada, Paolo Di Croce wishes to involve more Convivia around Canada in supporting the initiative.

His visit to Canada will also be an opportunity to meet with the Ontario Terra Madre Network that counts a couple of indigenous communities, in view of the Indigenous Terra Madre event, which will take place in Jokkmokk, Sweden in June 2011. Representatives of the Haida, Mohawk, Nacho Nyak Dun and Southern Tutchone peoples will be attending the event which will gather indigenous communities from around the world.

Di Croce will be meeting with the Toronto Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business and the Native Canadian Centre in order to discuss possibilities of further collaboration on indigenous matters.

The event will gather indigenous food communities from around the world to exchange their expertise and raise a collective voice on how traditional knowledge and sustainable use of natural resources can contribute to developing good, clean and fair food systems.
