New Slow Food books

This morning marks the official introduction of the 2007 wine guide, Vini d’Italia, from Slow Food Editore and Gambero Rosso.

Also available for sale at Salone stands are the two newest Slow Food books in English. The first, from New York publisher Rizzoli, is the first English translation of a book that appeared in Italian a year ago. In Slow Food Revolution, author Gigi Padovani, in collaboration with Carlo Petrini, documents the birth and development of Slow Food from an association of concerned friends in Italy to a worldwide network of gastronomes, farmers, cooks, academics and people who just care about how their food got to their plate. In the past weeks, the author has been on tour in the United States, from New York and New Jersey to Florida, spreading the Slow Food message in English.

And for the first time, Slow Food Editore’s signature Osteria Guide is available in English, in a book that combines Editore’s guide to Italian dining with another of its offerings, the Locande Guide, a list of the most comfortable places to stay in the tastiest towns. The guidebook includes 1,700 dining establishments as well as 800 pensions, hotels and room rentals — all places that reflect the Slow Food philosophy. It also includes a gastronomic dictionary with definitions of regional Italian dishes. It is available for sale at Salone del Gusto and can be purchased online starting next month.
